Croeso i Blywddyn Dau! Dosbarth Sycamore a Spruce ydy ni.
Welcome to Year 2! We are Sycamore and Spruce Class.
Your Teachers are:
Miss Fynn (Sycamore)
Mrs Davies & Mrs Ellis (Spruce)
P.E Day: Wednesday
Please ensure you bring your PE kit in every Wednesday. Please provide a kit suitable for outdoors including trainers, joggers/leggings, t-shirt and a jumper. You may leave your PE kit in school and we will send them home at the end of each half term, or if you prefer, you may take them home weekly.
Book bags
You will have been given a specific day to return your book bag. If you are unsure of this, please ask your teacher. These days may change throughout the year but we will notify you of this.
Ways to support your child at home
Please read with your child at home and support them to practise their high frequency words. When you are out and about encourage them to read signs and labels.
Numbers are all around us - encourage your child to use numbers and numeracy in their every day lives. Some examples of this could be:
- Encourage them to count objects - how many more do you need?
- Give them coins to pay for items at the shop
- Encourage them to learn to tell the time
- Let them weigh ingredients when you are cooking
- Let them measure things around the house
As well as this, we will be focussing initially on the 2, 5 and 10 times tables.
Pwy Ydy’n Ni?
This term our context for learning is called ‘Pwy ydy’n ni?’.
During this context we will be learning about where we live, our similarities and differences, different cultures and how fashion can help us to express ourselves.
We will be holding an ‘International Dress Day’ on Monday 29th January where learners will be invited to come to school wearing a traditional costume from their own culture/religion, an outfit to represent a country/culture they are interested in or dress in something that represents them.
During the context, pupils will have the opportunity to:
-
Learn about where they live and how families are all different.
-
Talk about their own cultures and learn about different cultures and celebrations.
-
Listen to and appraise music from different countries and cultures, thinking about how they make us feel.
-
Retell the story of Handa’s Surprise.
-
Learn about the Welsh designer Laura Ashley and explore different fabrics and materials.
-
Use pattern and shape to create their own designs.
