Welcome to Year 2! We are Sycamore and Spruce Class.
Your Teachers are:

P.E Day: Wednesday
Please ensure you bring your PE kit in every Wednesday. Please provide a kit suitable for outdoors including trainers, joggers/leggings, t-shirt and a jumper. You may leave your PE kit in school and we will send them home at the end of each half term, or if you prefer, you may take them home weekly.
Book bags
You will have been given a specific day to return your book bag. If you are unsure of this, please ask your teacher. These days may change throughout the year but we will notify you of this.
Ways to support your child at home
Please read with your child at home and support them to practise their high frequency words. When you are out and about encourage them to read signs and labels.
Numbers are all around us - encourage your child to use numbers and numeracy in their every day lives. Some examples of this could be:
- Encourage them to count objects - how many more do you need?
- Give them coins to pay for items at the shop
- Encourage them to learn to tell the time
- Let them weigh ingredients when you are cooking
- Let them measure things around the house
As well as this, we will be focussing initially on the 2, 5 and 10 times tables.
Friend or Foe
Our Context For Learning this term is 'Friend or Foe.' We are so excited to share all about our learning with you. We will be travelling back in time to explore and learn about castles. We will be learning about life in the Middle Ages, why castles were built and undertaking a special visit to Cardiff Castle to get some hands on experience of life in a castle!
In the following weeks, the pupils will be provided with opportunities to experience:
- Asking good questions and discovering new things through play.
- Undertaking enquiry, exploration and investigation and becoming curious about the past.
- Learning about events from the past.
- Learning about forces and using our knowledge of push and pull to design a bow and arrow.
- Testing designs and using measuring skills to measure projectile distance.
- Using creative skills to create a piece of artwork inspired by Rhiannon art.
- Learning that human societies are complex and diverse, shaped by actions and beliefs, by discovering what life was like in the Middle Ages.
- Comparing and contrasting different events and buildings across the world during the Middle Ages. Discovering what castles and special buildings in Asia were like during the time of Marco Polo's exploration.
