Additional Information

Snack Money:

Snack money will need to be handed in on a Monday morning and the cost is £1.50 per week.

Homework Books:

Please could homework books be returned to school on a Monday. These will then be given back out on a Wednesday. Thank you for your continued support. 

Reading Books:

Reading books should be brought in on a Monday and will be returned on a Wednesday. 

Spellings

Children will be given spellings on a Wednesday and will be tested on a Monday. We will occasionally revisit these at random times throughout the year to ensure children have a concrete knowledge of their words. 

 

PE Kits:

Outdoor Games

Your child will need suitable outdoor PE kit, including trainers, shorts and a t-shirt.  Tracksuit/jogging bottoms and a jumper will be needed in colder weather.

Spruce and Sycamore will have games on a Tuesday.

 

Indoor PE (Dance/Gym)

Your child will need suitable PE kit.

Spruce and Sycamore will have Indoor PE on a Wednesday.

Our Context for Learning this half-term is called: 'Community Explorers'.

 

 

 

Language, Literacy and Communication

This half term we will be reading a range of fiction and non-fiction books in Guided Group Reading sessions, individually and as a class. We will be using our context of ‘community explorers’ to help enhance our reading and writing.  

In our writing, we will focus on adjectives, sentence structure and the use of correct and consistent punctuation through various stimuli and genres of writing. We will continue to develop our cursive handwriting.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

Geography: We will be using our locality to identify physical and human feature of the area.

History: We will be looking at historical events that have helped shape our world today. 

Science: This term, we will be learning about shadows and light and making silhouettes.

Thinking Skills: We will continue to use a range of thinking skills to enhance our thinking and organisation. 

 

Physical Development

In PE this half term, we will be responding to different music moods expressively through dance.  In Games, we will be developing our fitness, stamina and ball skills.

Mathematical Development

In our Mathematical Development, we will be looking at basic number skills, ensuring we are confident with number formation, basic addition and subtraction, number bonds to 20 and place value of any number within 100. We will be counting in groups of 2s, 5s and 10s and learning our 2,5 and 10 multiplication tables.

PSD, RE, Well-being, Cultural diversity

PSD & Well-being:

We will be looking at, and learning to appreciate, our own strengths, and valuing the strengths of each other.  We will be setting personal development goals that we want to work on for this year. 

 

RE:

We will be celebrating the Harvest festival. We will be learning about the roles of different leaders from different faiths. 

ICT

In ICT, we will be learning how technology can be used in different ways to enhance life in the modern world. 

Creative Development

As part of our Context for Learning, 'Community Explorers', we will be looking at the work of a local Welsh artist, Gayle Rogers, creating observational pictures. We will also be using various mediums to create a 3D model of Danescourt. 

Welsh Language Development

We will be practising vocabulary and sentence patterns relating to health and fitness. We will be taking part in a variety of activities to develop independent language skills.
