Year 2

Croeso i Blywddyn Dau. Welcome to Year 2! We are Sycamore and Spruce Class.

Book bags
You will have been given a specific day to return your book bag. If you are unsure of this, please ask your teacher. These days may change throughout the year but we will notify you of this. 

Ways to support your child at home

Please read with your child at home and support them to practise their high frequency words. When you are out and about encourage them to read signs and labels. 

Numbers are all around us - encourage your child to use numbers and numeracy in their every day lives. Some examples of this could be:

- Encourage them to count objects - how many more do you need?
- Give them coins to pay for items at the shop
- Encourage them to learn to tell the time
- Let them weigh ingredients when you are cooking
- Let them measure things around the house 

As well as this, we will be focussing initially on the 2, 5 and 10 times tables.

 

                                                                       

Get Connected

This term we will be looking at how we are connected to ourselves, each other and nature. Learners will have opportunities to experience real life situations and to use the Habits of Mind ‘Use Your Knowledge’ and ‘Good Questions’ to develop their understanding and to find out more. 

Learners will be developing our understanding of ourselves, our identity and well-being by:

  • Learning about our amazing bodies

  • Thinking about how we can look after ourselves – our minds and our bodies

  • Thinking about our relationships with others 

Learners will learn about our connections to nature by: 

  • Looking at nature and animals in our school grounds

  • Learning about life cycles of animals 

  • Learning about habitats – what makes a good habitat and what may live in different habitats

  • Searching for minibeasts and designing and making bug hotels 

  • Having our very own 'Bug Ball’ 

 

There will also be opportunities to conduct scientific experiments, use data handling skills and to explore ICT.
