Year 4
Croeso i Blwyddyn 4 - 2025/2026
Hawthorn Class - Mrs Morris & Mrs Woolston
Hazel Class - Miss Knowles
A very warm welcome to Year Four's classroom page. As a team, we are very excited to share the learning experiences of the pupils, important information and overviews of the next context.
Our new context for learning this term is 'Pwy Ydyn Ni?' Pupils will be considering how identity and diversity are integral to our community. We will be focusing on what makes us as individuals unique, as well as what makes us welsh. Our pupils will be learning what being welsh means to them and how we can celebrate each other's cultural identities. There will be lots of exciting learning opportunities on offer. For example, to bring the curriculum to life, our pupils will be learning about foods from other cultures around the world and will have the opportunity to taste these!
In the following weeks, the pupils will be provided with opportunities to experience:
- Undertaking a science experiment to look at reversible and irreversible changes within cooking a context
- Carrying out enquiries and mathematical tasks to represent data collected by pupils
- Applying literacy skills to write about poetry places or objects that make us feel welsh
- Using literacy skills to write and create new recipes
- Asking good questions and using their knowledge to develop their understanding of the Welsh community and culture using a plethora of sources.
- Investigating where food comes from across the world, calculating their food miles and impact on the environment
- Studying the artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo and his fruit portrait paintings whilst comparing them to the artwork of welsh artist Nathan Wyburn
- Looking at data representation in bar charts, pictograms and line graphs
- Contributing to deep and meaningful questions based on a variety of stimuli using visible thinking routines and Philosophy for Children (P4C) sessions, e.g. relationships
- Understanding collective citizenship and the importance of looking after our world (sustainability), including the immediate environment of the school allotments – growing herbs and vegetables for a food festival
- Immersing themselves in real-life experiences; to include experiences of visiting a market
- Innovating and constructing prototypes using new ideas, thinking flexibly and thinking together when making
- Looking at local, national and international contexts (impact of authority and the rights of the child)
- Deciphering words from first languages within our classes – making connections with how these languages are connected to other languages, including Welsh
- Investigating different religions and looking at their celebrations – linking to how multicultural and diverse our community is.
- Applying literacy and DCF skills to present information about Food Miles and their global impact
- Researching using DCF skills to present information and publish literacy work including poems and news paper articles
- Sharing stories with pupils about different religious festivals, cultures and foods around the world including The Street Food Festival by Gail Sequeira.
